Colònia Sant Jordi is a very quiet holiday place on the south coast of Mallorca, originally founded in 1879 as an agricultural and fishing colony. Tourists did not arrive until the end of the 1950s, and since then the town has experienced a steady but controlled growth. The original fishing port still exists, and if you get there early enough, a small ferry leaves daily at 9.30 for the short trip to Cabrera Island. This tiny rocky island, whose name means “goat island”, was declared a national park in 1991. The beach of Sa Platja des Port is located next to the marina and fishing port of Colònia Sant Jordi and despite its small size offers excellent facilities. On both sides of the town there are also the fairytale beaches of Ets Estanys, Es Trenc, Es Dolç and Es Carbó, which are among the most beautiful beaches on the island. They are very fine sandy and descend gently towards the sea, making them ideal for families with children. During the summer season there are many sports facilities in the village and on the beach. At the harbour there is a small promenade as well as various restaurants, cafes and shops. The two 18-hole golf courses of Son Antem are about 20 minutes away. The capital Palma de Mallorca and the international airport are about 40 minutes away.
